JEDDAH, 6 August 2006 — Crown Prince Sultan donated SR1 million to the Institute of Emergency Medicine in the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday. He gave the donation while receiving Muqhem Abu Ruqaiba, chairman of the institute’s board of directors, and the board members. Abu Ruqaiba briefed the crown prince on the institute’s achievements. Prince Sultan urged the officials to exert more efforts to improve emergency medical services in the Kingdom.
Makkah Police Probing Simultaneous Fires
MAKKAH, 6 August 2006 — Makkah police have begun detailed inquiries into three accidental fires that started almost simultaneously in the city on Thursday, Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday. In the first incident, a car burned near the Badaiwy mosque in the Jabal Nur district. Almost at the same time, police received another report of a truck reduced to ashes in the Al-Maabid district. Police were also puzzled by another fire in a girls’ primary school in a nearby district. Three classrooms and the principal’s office were gutted in the blaze. Officials strongly suspect criminal involvement in the fire because the school computer could not be found in the charred remains of what had been the principal’s office.
Expat Prisoners Released, Deported
MADINAH, 6 August 2006 — A number of expatriate prisoners were released from jails in Madinah in line with the royal orders to release people held for private and public rights violations, Director of Prisoners Brig. Mahayya Al-Sehymi said to the Saudi Press Agency yesterday.
