JEDDAH, 9 June 2006 — A fire gutted several workshops in the industrial area in Jeddah yesterday. Though no loss of life was reported the material loss would be huge, a source at the Civil Defense told Arab News. The affected workshops included an iron foundry and furniture-making unit among others. The cause for the fire is not determined. The source also said despite the sweltering weather the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control from spreading to nearby facilities. The officials also advised workers at foundries and welding shops to take all precaution against fire hazard.
