NAIROBI, 9 June 2006 — Kingdom Holding Company Chairman Prince Alwaleed bin Talal visited the Garissa district in Kenya accompanied by the Kenyan Vice President Moody Awori, and special ambassador of the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP) Abdulaziz Arrukban on June 6 and participated in the distribution of food aid packages carried out by the UNWFP.
The villagers of Garissa were grateful for Prince Alwaleed’s timely and generous contribution of $1,000,000 that will go a long way to alleviate the suffering faced by over 3.5 million Kenyans affected from the prolonged drought.
This gesture came in response to a request from Dr. Yusuf A. Nzibo, ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to Saudi Arabia.
Prince Alwaleed’s donation is testimony to the prince’s commitment to humanitarian causes and helping those who are in need. “We are satisfied with how swiftly the UN is working to alleviate the famine,” said Prince Alwaleed. While in Garissa, Prince Alwaleed also visited the Asal School site.
