RIYADH, 15 June 2006 — Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company, has donated 5,000 personal computers to the Computer Philanthropic Program in Tunisia, in response to a request from Tunisian President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.
The program was developed to help initiate education in information technology for the people of Tunisia. The computer philanthropic program will give the opportunity to most families to use this vital resource for development in different areas.
Prince Alwaleed recently received at his office Tunisian Ambassador Salah Eddine Maaoui who extended Ben Ali’s thanks to the prince for his generous contribution to help the people of Tunisia.
The ambassador said that Prince Alwaleed was very highly regarded by the president and people of Tunis, and was a role model for young people.
Also on the agenda were social and economic issues and Saudi-Tunisian relations. Prince Alwaleed urged the ambassador to give his regards to the president.
The prince had met with the Tunisian president on a number of occasions at the President’s Palace in Carthage in the past. In 2003, the president bestowed the highest medal in Tunis upon the prince. In 2004, the Tunisian ambassador awarded the prince with the “November 7” medal to commemorate the anniversary of the accession of the President and a letter of thanks for Prince Alwaleed’s continuous support of the people of Tunisia.
