JEDDAH, 18 June 2006 — Police have busted a gang of armed robbers in Riyadh, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday.
The gang, comprising five Saudi youths, mainly targeted shopping centers, pharmacies and cars passing through remote parts of the city.
Riyadh police lately received a number of burglary reports from shop owners, restaurateurs and drivers. In all complaints, there were five perpetrators armed with guns and the crimes took place at night.
Shop owners said the gang appeared right before closing time with one member waiting in the getaway car.
Investigators arrested on Thursday a man whom they suspected of wrongdoing because he was driving different cars. After interrogation, the man led the cops to his alleged accomplices in their hideouts in different parts of the city.
