JEDDAH, 20 June 2006 — Young Saudis with scientific and creative spirits now have a platform to explore their potential. The Jeddah Science Innovation Club was inaugurated here on Sunday night. Jeddah Governor Prince Mishaal presided over the opening of the club located at the Ministry of Education Stadium off Madinah Road.
The club is the result of a partnership between the private sector and the Ministry of Education, specifically the science and student activity department of the General Directorate of Education in the Makkah Region.
Visibly impressed by the establishment of the club, the governor remarked that the new platform should be beneficial to young nationals to explore their talents and hone their skills outside the confines of the classroom. He emphasized the continuous need for such novel initiatives that augment new academic fronts to foster young national talents and lead them to a bright and promising future.
After unveiling the commemorative monument, the governor and minister of education were taken on a tour of the club.
The club plans to realize a number of goals that include participating in reviving leadership in science, raising a creativity-oriented generation of students and honoring local and international achievements in science.
It encompasses labs for computer, biology, math and astronomy, as well as instruction and lecture rooms, workshops and a science library.
“The club, once an ambitious dream, has now become a reality,” said Abdullah Al-Suwaid of the Student Activity Department of the General Directorate of Education, Makkah Region, and supervisor of the club.
He described the club, a self-sustaining institution, as a revolution in the field of applied sciences. It will provide a wealth of resources that allow students to further expand their creative horizons, Al-Suwaid said after expressing appreciation for the “outstanding efforts and exemplary role” of Modern Industries Company (MIC) in supporting academic activities.
MIC Chairman Osama Ismail Abudawood emphasized the company’s commitment to developing long-term and sustainable programs that serve the larger community, including the establishment of the SR7-million club.
