RIYADH, 20 June 2006 — Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), has contributed SR200,000 to the International Union of Muslim Scouts (IUMS) in Saudi Arabia. The prince’s donation came in response to a request from the president of the International Islamic Forum for Dialogue and assistant secretary-general of the World Muslim Congress, Professor Dr. Hamid ibn Ahmad Al-Rifaie, and IUMS Chairman and World Scout Foundation (WSF) board member Dr. Abdullah ibn Omar Naseef.
The IUMS, headquartered in the Jeddah, is an international platform to activate and coordinate the activities of Muslim scouts from around the world with a view to bringing Muslim youths together. Membership is open to scout associations from all Muslim and non-Muslim countries.
In February, the union in cooperation with the Saudi Arabian Boy Scout Association organized a global encampment activity hosted in Jubail. It was considered to be the first of its kind in the Kingdom.
The scouting event’s slogan ‘Together For Peace’ was intended to teach human contribution to changes in the world and to spread the culture of peace and tolerance with others through “civilization recognition and culture exchange” to develop young ambassadors of peace.
Meanwhile, the prince received at his office in Riyadh, British Ambassador Sherard Cowper-Coles. Heba Fatani, executive manager, Corporate Communications Department; Muna AbuSulayman, executive manager, Strategic Studies Department; Lameis Al Mouhandis and Roaa Sharaf from the Protocol Department were among those present.
