JEDDAH, 20 June 2006 — The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu has signed a SR16,348,814 contract for the establishment of infrastructure at Yanbu 2. The contract is for building the roads and infrastructure network in Lot B4 with Pan Saudi Arabia Company for Commerce, Industry and Contracting. Work on the project began yesterday and is expected to be completed after 490 days. The contractor will import and build the roads and infrastructure that includes water, electricity and sewage at Lot B4 of 15 hectares at south of Yanbu 2.
The RCJY also permitted the start of work on establishing a powder plaster-producing factory by the International Plaster Company Ltd. The factory is located at the light industries sector on a 40 thousand square meter plot. It includes building two hangers, storage for crushing stone, administration building and other facilities. According to official sources at RCJY, there are many companies and investors interested in obtaining lots at Yanbu 2 fully equipped and ready for establishing factories benefiting from the facilities and procedures provided.
In another development, governor of Madinah, Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Majed, is attending the graduation ceremony of 667 graduates from Yanbu Industrial College today and laying the cornerstone for building a ship basin for maintaining ships at Yanbu Commercial Port over a 300 thousand square meter area.
The area was rented from the Sea Port Institution. The project is located at an important location on the eastern cost of the Red Sea where many local and international sea routes and ships cross daily. Upon completion in two years, the project will provide enormous services to the Saudi fleet and all fleets in the region. It is designed to contain the largest dry and floating basin in the region for building new ships, fixing and maintaining ships. It is expected to become commercially operational in 2008.
