SHARJAH, 21 June 2006 — The award winning Syrian film, “Listeners’ Choice” by filmmaker Abdellatif Abdelhamid, will be featured at the Al-Qasba Theater at Qanat Al-Qasba, in Sharjah, tomorrow as part of the theater’s ongoing “Face to Face With Regional Films” program this year.

Starring Fayez Qazaq, Jamal Qabbesh, Mohsen Ghazi, and Maamoun Al-Khatib, the 90 minute Arabic drama subtitled in English is a love story between Aziza and Jamal, and the story of a friendship between the latter and Salim, a disabled man who has run away from the oppression of his parents. Welcomed into Jamal’s parents’ house, he is soon regarded as a son.

The film centers around Jamal’s humble yet generous home, where the poor farmers frequently listen to their favourite radio programs and the news from around the world, hence the title of the film.

“Listeners’ Choice” has won two prestigious awards, including the Golden Award in Casablanca’s International Festival and the Juries Award in the Asian Film Festival in New Delhi during the same month.
