RIYADH, 23 June 2006 — A court in Riyadh has sentenced an armed robber to five years imprisonment and ordered he be given 1,000 lashes for a series of armed robberies in the city, Al-Eqtisadiah, a sister publication of Arab News, reported yesterday. The man, a foreign national, was responsible for robbing a number of people at gunpoint as they left various banks having withdrawn huge sums of money. Riyadh police arrested the thief after one of his latest victims, a Saudi man, provided them with a detailed description of the thief after he was robbed of SR85,000.
