JIZAN, 24 June 2006 — A man who killed his cousin last Wednesday has surrendered to the police, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday.
Police said they found the body of Hamadi, an Egyptian who worked as a painter, lying in front of a building where he lived with a group of expatriate workers.
Police have not discovered the motive behind the murder. Muhammad, who is also his victim’s brother-in-law, voluntarily surrendered to the police and confessed to the crime, the paper said.
According to sources, the cousins got on very well and there was no history of conflict between the two.
The dead man had made visa and travel arrangements for Muhammad and personally met all expenses for him to come and work in Saudi Arabia several years ago. The cousins had been living in the same room in a bachelor’s apartment in Jizan, where they worked together.
According to other workers who lived in the building, the two men had left their accommodation on Wednesday evening. Muhammad returned home late in the night looking distraught and there were bloodstains on his clothes.
They said Muhammad told them that he had killed Hamadi and asked them to inform the police, saying he would not flee.
“We do not know what prompted Muhammad to do this horrible crime as we have never seen or heard them quarreling. It might be something that has to do with their families back in Egypt,” said one of the Egyptian workers who lived with the duo in the same apartment.
