ABU DHABI, 27 June 2006 — Emirates American Medical Services, a partner with leading oncology health care providers worldwide, recently unveiled its plans for a Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Center in Abu Dhabi, the first of its kind in the region.
The center expects to begin admitting patients before the end of the year. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
With construction complete and equipment currently being installed, this new 4,000-square-meter building on a three acre piece of property belonging to Dr. Sultan ibn Khalifa Al-Nahayan will help bring about a revolution for cancer diagnosis and treatment in this country.
“This center will diagnose patients with the latest PET/CT (position emission tomography/computed tomography) scanner manufactured by GE Healthcare, and deliver radiation therapy via linear accelerators from Varian Medical Systems, as well as providing chemotherapy with highly qualified staff of western qualifications and experiences,” said Dr. Aly Abdel Razek, director of the center and fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology, in a press statement.
Aly said the center would be affiliated with St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas, associated with Baylor University.
Aly also recognized the support of Abu Dhabi International Medical Services (ADI), a leading supplier of medical equipment in the United Arab Emirates, and the authorized dealer for GE Healthcare’s diagnostic imaging equipment.
