RIYADH, 28 June 2006 — A Shoura Council delegation will attend the high-profile opening ceremony of the Saudi-funded new SR56.3-million 15-story senate building of Kazakhstan next month.
“An invitation letter to visit Astana from Kazakh Senate Speaker Nurtai Abykayev was delivered to Shoura chief Saleh Al-Humaid early this month,” said Rawan Jumabek, a spokesman of the Kazakhstan Embassy, here yesterday.
“The Saudi funds for the construction of the senate building symbolizes a major move to expand bilateral relations in all sectors especially in the field of parliamentary affairs,” said Jumabek.
The diplomat would not provide more details of the opening ceremony and the participation of the Saudi officials on that occasion. He, however, said Saudi Arabia was among the first countries to support Kazakhstan and provide that country with numerous grants and soft credits for implementation of various projects for socio-economic development of that resource-rich nation.
