RIYADH, 28 June 2006 — The National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development (NCWCD) is planning a documentary on Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, highlighting his contributions to the green cause both in the Kingdom and abroad.
“The purpose of the initiative is not only to tell the world about Crown Prince Sultan’s contributions to wildlife but also to have a comprehensive record of his achievements in our archives for reference by researchers and wildlife specialists,” Abdul Aziz Abu Zinada, secretary-general of the NCWCD, told Arab News yesterday.
Crown Prince Sultan, who has been the chairman of the commission since its inception in 1986, has received several awards for his services toward environmental protection and wildlife conservation.
The prince had also introduced the Prince Sultan International Prize for Water, which is intended to recognize the efforts undertaken by innovative scholars and scientists in the realm of water conservation and reclamation worldwide.
The 20-minute Arabic documentary will be dubbed in English. A special committee headed by Fahd Al-Oteibi and funded by a private sector organization is producing the film.
In cooperation with the Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Cooperation (SABIC), the commission has also undertaken a project to produce another documentary to educate the people on the environmental problems and their solutions.
The 20-minute film costing SR500,000 will be released during the First Saudi Wildlife Week to be observed Kingdomwide in March next year.
Abu Zinada said the film would be shot in natural environment of the Kingdom. He pointed out that the commission by then would be completing 20 years of service in wildlife conservation and development.
“With our experience, we will have plenty of things to tell the public through these documentaries,” he added.
