RIYADH, 28 July 2006 — A joint venture of Canadian energy services company ShawCor Ltd. has won an SR225 million contract to provide pipeline coating services for a major pipeline project in Saudi Arabia. This is a prestigious project under which the Arabian Pipecoating Company, which represents ShawCor in the Kingdom, will provide anti-corrosion and other coatings and double jointing for the Saudi Aramco’s Khurais pipeline project.
Commenting on this contract won by a Canadian joint venture, Roderick Bell, Canadian ambassador, said here yesterday that “the Canadian companies had significant experience in the pipeline sector because of the sizeable pipeline network in Canada, which covered vast distances over difficult terrain, much like the network in Saudi Arabia.” “I am pleased to hear the success of the Canadian company ShawCor in securing this contract with Aramco,” he said. The Toronto-based ShawCor company has made the announcement about the contract in which they will be working for a major Saudi company Aramco, which is one of the world’s biggest companies operating in energy sector. The contract covers services for more than 2,200 kms of pipe, which will be used for crude oil production and to carry salt water from the Arabian Gulf to the Khurais field where it will be used for enhanced oil recovery.
Referring to this contract won by the Canadian company, Ambassador Bell said that “this was but one area in the energy sector, where Canadian companies are well-suited and better-equipped to cooperate with Saudi ventures.” Of late, several Canadian companies have evinced keen interest to work in the Kingdom. “This reflects the importance of our bilateral commercial relationship,” said the diplomat, adding that the Kingdom is also an important trading partner of Canada.
