AMMAN, 29 June 2006 — The Jordanian Cabinet yesterday decided to sell the state’s remaining 41.5 percent stake in Jordan Telecom mainly to France Telecom and Gulf businesses for 515 million dinars ($727 million), according to the government’s official spokesman Nasser Judeh. France Telecom acquired 11 percent, raising its stake in Jordan Telecom to 51 percent, a controlling interest that entitles the French company to appoint a majority of the Jordanian firm’s board of directors, economists said. The French firm already has a 40 percent interest in Jordan Telecom, which still has a monopoly of the fixed telephone network in the country.
