QUNFUDA, 28 July 2006 — A Saudi groom couldn’t believe his ears when his father-in-law-to-be asked for only SR3 for dowry, the Okaz daily reported yesterday. The young man thought at first the old man was joking, but the old man explained that he didn’t believe in inflicting financial burden on the young couple. At the same time and in the same city a father-in-law of a new bride demanded that her salary be deposited into his account. The young lady’s new husband said he couldn’t believe his ears when he heard this demand. The father-in-law explained that he didn’t trust his son-in-law and wanted to keep access to these funds away from him.
