JEDDAH, 30 June 2006 — An Asian housemaid who strangled her 60-year-old woman employer to death and then stole valuables worth several thousand riyals in the town of Mahayel, Asir, was arrested by police on Tuesday after trying to flee to Jeddah. Yanti Suguno, aged-35, killed her employer in the Nuzha district of Mahayel and was then arrested while waiting for a bus to Jeddah at the SAPTCO bus depot, the Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday.
“Workers at the bus station became suspicious of her because of blood stains on her untidy clothes. The maid had come to Mahayel just one week ago to work for the old Saudi lady,” said a police spokesman. Police officers quickly arrived on the scene and on questioning the woman realized she fitted the description of the maid they were looking for. The brother of the old lady had reported the murder earlier and had given the police a detailed description of the maid.
According to the police spokesman the maid, who was previously working in Qasim, has confessed to the killing and is presently in jail awaiting trial.
In another case in Makkah, a foreign maid tragically died on Tuesday evening having jumped out of a window on the seventh floor of a high-rise apartment building while trying to escape her employer in the Khalidiyah district of the city.
