AMMAN, 3 July 2006 — The Central Bank of Jordan yesterday decided to raise the rediscount rate on the Jordanian dinar by a 0.25 percentage point, to 7.25 percent from 7.00 percent, to check inflation and match a similar hike on the US dollar rate, the CBJ Governor Umayya Touqan said. “This decision, which goes into effect as of today, is designed to contain inflation pressures and help retain the stability of the dinar’s exchange rate,” Touqan added. The US Federal Reserve decided last week to raise the dollar’s key interest rate by a 0.25 percentage point, to 5.25 percent from 5.00 percent.
