ABU DHABI, 4 July 2006 — Finance Minister Mohammad Khalfan ibn Khirbash registered for his Emirates ID card yesterday and was briefed about the latest developments on the ID program being implemented by the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA).
“The population registry and ID card program are the most important projects being implemented in the UAE,” said the minister. “They will play a major role in developing the government sector, as it provides an accurate and unified database of the UAE’s population. Obtaining accurate statistics for different sectors such as health, education and population is possible via this project, and this will directly impact services that the government provides.”
Khirbash noted that the visit to the Mushrif registration center enabled the team from his ministry to experience first hand the rollout of the second phase of the ID card project that involves registration of federal government employees.
Saeed Al-Dhaheri, director general of the EIDA, said that the program would replace the labor card, the driving license as well as certain specific documents with a single ID card, in order to facilitate different transactions and enhance the efficiency of governmental performance.
The new ID card will include an e-wallet that can be used for the e-dirham project implemented by the Ministry of Finance.
