MADINAH, 11 July 2006 — The Shuhada Center in Madinah has published 1.2 million copies of booklets detailing the correct method of visiting graves to distribute to an increasing number of visitors to cemeteries and graveyards across the city this summer.
“The booklets warn about the blameworthy actions believers should avoid when visiting such places,” Sheikh Mansour Al-Salamah, chairman of the center, which is a subsidiary of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, said in a statement.
The booklets aim to give guidelines to visitors about the tenets of Islam and how to protect themselves from idolatry and practices that run contrary to the essence of Islam.
Sheikh Salamah added that the center last year distributed more than 3 million copies of similar booklets published in 39 languages. It has taken steps to recruit 30 students of various nationalities to help field workers overcome language barriers when interacting with non-Arab visitors.
In an array of things planned this year, the Shuhada Center will make announcements using loud speakers in eight languages and will install signposts in foreign languages to help guide and advise visitors.
