GSTAAD, Switzerland — Spanish sixth seed Feliciano Lopez survived a scare against Croatian teenage qualifier Marin Cilic yesterday before booking a place in the final of the Swiss Open.

After trailing the 17-year-old former French Open junior champion at the start of the match’s deciding set, the world No. 68 fought back to win 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.

Today’s final will pit Lopez against French seventh seed Richard Gasquet who also came through an unexpectedly tough semifinal before downing Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.

Davydenko to Face Robredo in Swedish Open Final

In Bastad, Sweden, top seed Nikolay Davydenko advanced to the Swedish Open final yesterday by beating Argentine Agustin Calleri 6-3, 6-3.

The Russian will now face Spanish second seed Tommy Robredo, who beat Finn Jarkko Nieminen 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the second semifinal.

The world No. 5 has dropped only one set in the tournament so far and was rarely threatened by Calleri in the baseline rallies.

Murray Doubles Up to Ease Into Newport Semifinals

In New York, British top seed Andy Murray won two matches to advance to the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships semifinals in Newport, Rhode Island on Friday.

The 19-year-old had to play twice because of poor weather on Thursday, starting with a 7-5, 6-2 second-round win over American Sam Querrey in a match that resumed with Murray 5-3 ahead. Just one hour later, the Briton had to face another American, Robert Kendrick, in the quarterfinals, and he needed just 59 minutes to rout his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

“I did everything pretty well,” Murray told reporters.

Eeight seed Justine Gimelstob of US also advanced by crushing Kristian Pless of Denmark 6-3, 6-1.

Australia’s Mark Philippoussis also defeated another American Mardy Fish 7-6, 6-3.

Fish was also playing his second match of the day after beating Brazil’s Thiago Alves 6-2, 6-3 in another rain-delayed match, but he ran out of steam against the experienced Australian.

Sixth-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria will be Philippoussis’s next opponent after he rallied to beat Britain’s Alex Bogdanovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
