MAKKAH, 17 July 2006 — A woman professor in Makkah asked authorities here to severely punish her son for harassing a girl who also happened to be one of her students, the Al-Nadwah newspaper reported yesterday. The son is currently in hospital after the girl’s brothers, cousins and their friends beat him unconscious. The youngster saw the girl and her sister in a shopping mall and invited them for a ride in his spanking new car promising to drop them off at home. The girls refused his offer and left the mall in a taxi. Undeterred by the rejection, he followed the cab closely behind trying to catch the girls’ attention, something that annoyed the girls even more prompting them to telephone their brothers. The brothers told their sisters to let him follow them until they reached home. When they arrived home the young man got out of his car to hand the girls his telephone number. At the same time the girls’ brothers, cousins and friends, who were lying in wait, came flooding out of their house and cornered him. He was then given a lesson he will never forget and beaten black and blue till he fell unconscious. The young Saudi was taken to a local hospital and the authorities were called to pursue criminal charges against him for harassing women. When the girls’ family came to learn that the youth’s mother was a professor who also taught the girls, they forgave the youth and waived the punishment. But the professor insisted that her son be taught another lesson and called for strict police action against him.
