JEDDAH, 17 July 2006 — It is almost certain that Al-Ahli Club will not participate in an international football friendly tournament, which will take place in Syria, because of the current situation between Lebanon and Israel.
Ahli have so far not sent the team lineup and there is a great possibility that their participation will be canceled. Also, the tournament being shelved altogether has not been ruled out.
Ahli were to travel to Turkey for training camp but decided against it at the last moment because 10 of their players were unable to make the trip because of commitments to the national youth and junior teams. Ahli’s Serbian coach Nebusha saw no use of going to the training camp when the majority would not benefit.
The coach is now trying to find a team to play a friendly match with. Ohod club begged off from playing with Ahli club next Thursday, which would have given Nebusha an opportunity to use the team’s new Serbian striker.
Ahli management is aiming to play a friendly match against Yemen Olympic team that arrived in Taif for a friendly against the Asian Cup-bound Saudi youth team.
