MADINAH, 19 July 2006 — A mentally unstable man, brandishing a sword, attacked a police officer in Madinah while he was making an arrest, the daily Okaz reported. The incident occurred when police were arresting a suspect for an undisclosed violation in front of his house. Suddenly a sword-wielding old man can charging out screaming like a Bedouin warrior and stabbed the arresting officer. The officer was taken to a hospital and treated for sword wounds. The old man, who turned out to be the father of the man who was being arrested, was detained. Police later learned that the old man was mentally ill, which is probably why he thought he was “The Eighth Samurai.”
