AFIF, 21 July 2006 — A member of the municipality in Afif suffered an enormous knock over the head after being attacked by women street vendors at a local gold market. The man had been touring the market looking for illegal street vendors and had asked the group of women to close their stalls and move away. Later in the day the official returned to the market and noticing the women still peddling their wares on a street corner, demanded they pack up and leave or face confiscation of their goods. The women, who outnumbered the man 6-1, refused to budge and a massive fight broke out. In the ensuing fracas, the municipal official was knocked over the head by an anonymous sympathizer of the street vendors.
