RENYA, 22 July 2006 — Police in Renya, southeast of Taif on the other side of the Asir Mountains, discovered a decomposed body in the desert, the daily Al-Yaum reported yesterday.

Teams from police and forensic officers moved to the location to examine the body and collect evidence. Early result showed that the body belongs to an unidentified African.

The discovery of this body raised the number to 47 bodies found so far this year.

Police have maintained that the bodies were of illegal immigrants who got lost when traveling through remote areas to avoid detection by authorities. Locals in this remote region occasionally find bodies of wanderers that get lost in the desert.

The area has agriculture, which tends to attract migrants for work.

Police suspect that the African man was trying to make his way to Taif through this desert but he lost his way and died as a result of thirst and heat.
