BHOPAL, 23 July 2006 — Police have traced the cyber café in Indore, the commercial capital of central Madhya Pradesh state, from where a threatening e-mail was sent to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It was a one-line death threat in English, sent from the e-mail ID Dinesh_askn@ yahoo.co.in on July 19.
According to Superintendent of Police Anshuman Yadav said the mail has been traced to Cyber Fun, an Internet café at Rishiraj Complex, Navlakha. Four people in their mid-20s are being questioned by the police.
Yadav refused to comment if the youths were linked to any terrorist organization. Sources said it seems to be an act done to create sensation. All five computers of the café have been sealed.
Rashtrapati Bhavan sources have confirmed that Kalam received an e-mail threat. Though, the sources declined to reveal the full content of the mail, they confirmed that it was received by the president on his personal e-mail ID from a yahoo server. The e-mail was forwarded to intelligence agencies.
Meanwhile, Bhopal police on Friday arrested an activist of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) from the city’s Aishbagh locality.
According to Bhopal Inspector General of Police Sanjeev Kumar Singh, SIMI activist Imran Ansari, 29, was arrested after a tip-off though there was no case against him in Bhopal. He had been arrested in Kanpur and Indore in the past. Singh denied Ansari, a mechanical engineer, had any terror links.
