TAIF, 24 July 2006 — OPEC wants to avoid fluctuations in oil prices that can damage the global economy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Al-Naimi said yesterday. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries wanted to avoid “raising prices in a way that might affect the global economy,” he said. “OPEC is concerned about the stability in the international market,” he added. Al-Naimi spoke after meeting his Nigerian counterpart Edmund Daukoru, who is also president of OPEC. Daukoru is on a tour of OPEC members in the region.
