JEDDAH, 25 July 2006 — The fire department in Jeddah closed down 133 warehouses in the city after it was discovered that they lacked major safety features, Al-Madinah reported yesterday.

The fire department warned eight other warehouses that they will be closed down unless safety conditions improved.

The manager of the fire department team that carried out the inspection, Maj. Ghazi Al-Ghamdi, said that many of these warehouses lacked even the basic fire extinguisher.

The team also warned other shopping centers to add more safety measures to their places.
