RIYADH, 24 August 2006 — The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) is organizing a chapter in the Kingdom and membership would be open to both licensed and non-licensed Filipino architects.
Alexander Borlaza, one of the organizers, said non-licensed Filipino architects are encouraged to take advantage of the chapter’s plan to get the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission to conduct licensure examinations in the Kingdom. As a public service, the chapter would provide consultations free of charge to compatriots in the Kingdom.
“This is actually the initial assistance UAP can offer to our kababayan who are planning to have their own house. Once they have their own design in mind, we can sign and seal the drawings here for free to be submitted to the building official back home and hook them up with the UAP chapter in their area and help them from there,” said Borlaza.
Licensed architects are also encouraged to join the organization “to be acknowledged by the UAP national chapter in the Philippines so that their projects and works to be recognized by the organization and be posted as highlights of the Filipino architect abroad.”

Borlaza said UAP has a membership of more than 16,000 architects in 109 chapters, 104 based in the Philippines and 5 based in the cities of Hongkong, Calgary and Ontario in Canada; San Francisco and Los Angeles in the United States.
The UAP itself was formed in 1974 from a merger of three organizations of architects nationwide.
