KARACHI, 24 November 2006 — Former Secretary-General of ruling PML (Q) Sindh Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh has resigned from the party office, central senior vice president PML (Q) and as a member of the Central Executive Committee of the party in protest. He has tendered his resignation on Wednesday and informed the party chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that the reason for this drastic step was his implication in false cases and also torture against him, his family and friends by the PML (Q). “I tender my resignation in the best interest of the PML (Q) as senior vice president and member Central Executive Committee so as to allow new induction that would help revive the party’s fortunes,” Sheikh said. The resignation came after the defeat of party candidate Maqbool Shaikh in the by-election against opposition PPP’s Agha Taimoor.
