RIYADH, 7 September 2006 — A painting contest for students of Indian schools in and around Riyadh will be held here on Sept. 22.
The competition is being organized by Riyadh Indian Friendship Association (RIFA), whose secretary R. Muraleedharan told Arab News the response to the contest last year was overwhelming when more than 400 students from L. KG to the 12th Grade participated.
The participants will be divided into four groups — Group 1 (for LKG, UKG and Ist Grade) to Group 4 (for 10th, 11th and 12th graders). Participants in groups 1 & 2 will be allowed to paint or draw any picture of their choice and can use pencil, crayon or water color. Those in groups 3 and 4 will have to paint a picture on the basis of a theme, which will be announced before the start of the competition. The medium of painting will be water-color only.
According to Ravi Varma, convener of the association, RIFA will provide “A3 size” drawing papers for the painting. All other materials such as board, brush, paint etc., will have to be brought by the participants. The venue of the competition will be announced later.
The competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for groups 3 & 4 and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for groups 1 & 2. There will be two winners from each class for 1st and 2nd places and a topper from each group. In addition, there will be a “Best Painting Award” to be selected from all the entries.
Muraleedharan said all participants will be given certificates, while certificates, trophies and painting books will be presented to class winners. A special prize will be handed out to the winner of the best painting. The evaluation of paintings and selection of winners will be done by a panel of judges. The organizers have fixed an entrance fee of SR10, which will be collected on the day of the competition.
Further, only the contestants will be allowed to remain at the competition venue.
