SINGAPORE, 11 September 2006 — The Singapore government is making no apologies for its decision to ban outdoor protest at the upcoming IMF and World Bank meetings. In spite of a joint statement issued by the IMF and World Bank asking the Singapore government to reconsider its decision to ban outdoor protest at the upcoming meetings, the Singapore government is standing its ground and has said that it will take no chances with the safety of the visiting delegates. Speaking to reporters at lifestyle event, Wong Kang Seng, Singapore’s deputy prime minister and minister for home affairs, made no apologies for Singapore’s ban on protest saying that it Singapore could not take risks with the safety of the delegates or Singaporeans.
