RIYADH, 15 September 2006 — A premier Indian institution conferred the prestigious “Top Diplomat Award 2006” on Saleh Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, Saudi ambassador to India, at a glittering function organized in New Delhi recently.
“The award is in recognition of our efforts to boost Saudi-Indian links, which eventually led to the historic visit of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to India early this year,” Al-Ghamdi said yesterday.
In a telephone interview from New Delhi, Al-Ghamdi expressed his happiness on receiving the award instituted by the Institute of Marketing and Management (IMM).
Al-Ghamdi revealed plans to open in New Delhi a high quality Saudi school, which will mainly cater to the educational requirements of the growing Arab community. Children of Saudi diplomats will be enrolled on a priority basis at the school, the first of its kind to be opened in India by the Saudi government. An inaugural ceremony is planned for Sept. 21 in New Delhi.
The award was presented by A.R. Kidwai, governor of the Indian province of Haryana, in the presence of a number of senior Indian officials, businessmen, faculty and students.
Established in 1967, the IMM is considered a premier educational institution, having affiliation to some of the best universities of the world including UK’s Princeton University. It offers various post-graduate and diploma courses in the field of marketing and management and also awards doctorate degrees. The institute has been giving awards of excellence in different fields since 1974.
