Saudi Youth Team Gear Up for Asian Cup

JEDDAH, 20 September 2006 — The Saudi national youth football team entered training camp yesterday as part of preparations for the Asian Cup for youth championship to be held in India from Oct. 29 to Nov. 12. The camp will continue until Sept. 30 in Riyadh. The team are also set to play two international friendlies in Dammam against Jordan and the UAE.

Meantime, the Kingdom national team will play their opening game against hosts Bahrain in Group B after the draw was made yesterday for the 18th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) football tournament next year. The Saudi-Bahrain match was scheduled for Jan. 17 at the Zaid Sport City. Qatar and Iraq are also bracketed in Group B.

Diving Competition

JEDDAH, 20 September 2006 — The Saudi Diving Center will host the 10th diving competition dubed “Searching for the Treasure,” on Friday at the Palm Beach at the industrial city of Jubail.

Falcon Race

JEDDAH, 20 September 2006 — The committee for the Prince Turki ibn Mohammed award for the annual Falcon Race is now working with specialist companies in administration and recreational events to improve the race.

Local fans and those from the across the region flock to the competition which is rooted deep in the Saudi culture. The race usually starts Feb. 8 and contestants are advised to register two weeks in advance. — Razan Baker
