RIYADH, 21 September 2006 — Minister for Urban Development in Uttar Pradesh government will arrive in Jeddah today to oversee Haj arrangements.
Mohammad Azam Khan, who is also the chairman of the UP Haj Committee, will discuss with his compatriots how to fund the construction of the SR100 million Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University.
A prominent politician and Samajwadi Party member Azam Khan told Arab News on telephone from Rampur yesterday that Mohammad Ali Jauhar University had been established as a private university. The university campus is located near the city of Rampur.
The foundation stone was laid recently by Mulayam Singh Yadav, UP chief minister. The university would be constructed on a 200-acre area.
Khan, who will review the arrangements made in Makkah and Madinah for Indian Haj pilgrims, said, “I would like to discuss the university project during my stay in the Kingdom.”
The minister, who will visit Riyadh after performing Umrah, said paucity of funds would not be allowed to hamper the construction of the university. He said that a medical college would also be established in the university.
He said that he had fulfilled his promise of setting up the university, named after Mohammad Ali Jauhar, who made significant contribution to the country’s freedom struggle. Khan, a law graduate from the Aligarh Muslim University, has been elected six times to Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly and has once been member of the upper house of Parliament.
