ABHA, 22 September 2006 — The Al-Janoub International School began its first day yesterday with a colorful opening ceremony held in the school premises. Situated on the Abha-Khamis Highway behind the Coca Cola Co., the school is located in serene surroundings on sloping mountainous terrain providing schoolchildren with a refreshing and exciting environment to study in.
The opening ceremony was attended by children, teachers and parents and began with the National Anthem sung by pupils, followed by a speech from the principal and then introduction by the members of the management committee. The excitement of attending school was clearly visible on the faces of innocent schoolchildren, some of whom have never attended school because of there not being an Indian school in the area.
Principal Maria G. Sebastian said that the school would follow the Indian curriculum of Central Board of Secondary Education (Delhi). Ms. Sebastian, who is an experienced teacher, was principal of the Qasim Indian School from 1989 till 1995. She added that the school has hired qualified and experienced teachers.
Zubair Muheedin, chief coordinator, said that although the school has license up to the 12th class, it intends to only conduct classes up to the 9th standard. The board of directors at the school includes managing director of the Al-Shifa Medical Group Khaled Dakheel Allah, Ahmed Al-Mamooni, chief coordinator Zubair Muheedin, Ibrahim, Devasi, and Jaleel.
