TAIF, 28 September 2006 — A nine-year-old data entry error at the labor recruitment department caused a Saudi to have his request for a maid rejected, the Okaz daily reported yesterday. The records at the office indicated that the sponsor still had a maid from nearly a decade ago even though she returned to her home country in 1997. Oddly enough, the department had approved two other maid sponsorships since then, but now claims the man still employed the first maid. The sponsor told the paper he had no choice but to hire illegally. The family could also consider doing their own cooking, dishes and laundry, for a change.
