MANAMA, 28 September 2006 — Over 150 students from Saudi Arabia and across the Gulf region and beyond have begun an orientation week at the Royal College of Surgeons at Ireland-Medical University of Bahrain (MUB).
The students are looking forward to a challenging and fruitful year ahead at one of the region’s top medical institutions. As a constituent university of the renowned Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the MUB delivers courses to the highest international standards, with qualifications that will be recognized worldwide.
Founding President Kevin O’Malley welcomed the students and wished them a great year as they embark on their higher studies.
“The first day of the term is a new and exciting beginning for both faculty and students. The academic staff has only one priority and that is to provide the best tuition possible for our students,” he said. “The incoming students have been carefully selected for their programs and everybody entering the university has potentials to become a successful doctor or nurse, but they must wish it and be prepared to work hard.”
The university aims to provide the very best education through the application of a wide range of educational methodologies. In addition to the medical and nursing schools, others in the fields of pharmacy, physiotherapy and dentistry will be added later.
Delivery of the curriculum depends heavily on the use of information technology and all students are given a personal laptop on orientation day. The MUB is an international center serving primarily the GCC countries but open to applicants outside the region.
“The university has a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere, in which students and faculty of various nationalities and backgrounds work and study together,” O’Malley said.
