CAIRO, 29 October 2006 — Egyptian actor Hisham Abdul Hameed has just finished shooting his new movie that will see him return to Egyptian cinema after an absence of four years, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.
Hisham is playing the role of a young man who, being a devoted fan, physically resembles the famous singer Abdul Haleem Hafez. The young man takes advantage of his resemblance to the singer and approaches entertainment production companies, in the hope that they will hire him.
However, after being rejected by several companies, he realizes that it takes much more than just looks to become successful.
Producer Ala’a Karim Dies at Age 55
CAIRO, 29 October 2006 — Egyptian film producer Ala’a Karim died on Friday aged 55 after suffering a heart attack.
The head of the Egyptian Cinema Union Mamdouh Al-Leithy said Karim was admitted to the Ma’had Nasser Hospital where doctors tried to save him, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.
Karim produced his first movie, “Ishtibah,” in 1991, which was called (Suspicion) and starred Najla Fathi and Mohammad Muneer.
He went on to win the National Festival Award for his movie “Al-Jirah,” which starred Najla Fathi and Farouq Al-Fishawi.
His wife and two children survive him.
