RIYADH, 1 October 2006 — The Philippine Embassy has scheduled the 5th Qur’an Reading Contest on Oct. 12.

The much-awaited annual event, to be held at the embassy grounds, is part of the community’s celebration of the holy month of Ramadan.

A press statement by the embassy said that as in previous years, a pre-qualification and elimination system will be conducted by the various Filipino Muslim groups in the Kingdom namely: the Maguindanaos, the Maranaos and the Tausugs. A fourth category, the Balik Islam or converts, is also included.

Three readers from each group will emerge from the elimination round and will represent each category or group that will compete for prizes from generous donors.
