RIYADH, 1 October 2006 — No, it’s not cooking and it’s not happening in the kitchen, but in a video room where four couples are learning the basics of videography.
The couples are participating in the videography sessions of the Ultra Media International Foundation (UMIF), whose avowed aim, in addition to charity work and research, is to equip interested Overseas Filipino Workers skills that they could use to earn additional income.
While some participants say they are into videography for fun, most of them, especially the couples, want to learn the tricks of the trade with a view to doing business soon.
One of these couples are Joey and Marites Lara, who plan to put up a video coverage business when they return to the Philippines. In their training, Joey acts as the cameraman and Marites edits the raw shots. There are also the couples Joselito and Arcie Tatad, Gene and Arlene Asuncion, and Raymond and Ann Araneta, who all plan to turn their new interest into an enriching experience.
In addition to videography, UMIF teaches photography, 3D animation, graphics design, movie making, and scriptwriting.
“We aim to equip artists, designers, 3D animators, photographers, AutoCAD users and other with ‘more effective working power’ by enhancing their skills through the use of advance visual technologies available,” UMIF President Jefferson Jabilles said.
At the end of each course, UMIF hopes that each participant would be able to use still and video cameras, edit photos, learn motion and 3D graphics.
UMIF conducts videography classes at Future Generation Philippine International School (FGPIS) in Suleimania district every Friday, starting at 4 p.m.
