MADINAH, 1 October 2006 — With an aim of providing Saudi youths with guidance in how to live a correct and upright life, the Madinah branch of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice successfully held a vacation program entitled “Discover Happiness Within Yourself” recently.
Speeches were delivered and films were shown in order to make the youths aware of correct Islamic behavior and values and to warn them against the negative aspects of sins. The program was successful in offering assistance in solving social, psychological and religious problems that are peculiar with the youth.
Madinah Governor Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Majed lauded the project. Seventy youths publicly repented and expressed a determination to stop smoking, dealing in drugs, viewing pornography and other irreligious activities.
A total of 5,514 youths are said to have gone through the program, according to a statement issued by Suleiman Al-Tuwaijri, director general of the commission in Madinah.
The commission’s strategy is to visit the youths at places where they generally assemble in evenings.
The commission uses a bus equipped with a large television screen that shows films focusing on the one hand on the negative aspects of joyriding, drug trafficking and drinking liquor and the real happiness of keeping away from evil and deviant practices and being good citizens.
Locations visited by members of the commission include football grounds and other places where the youths are known to join together.
The caravan has also been instrumental in starting cultural and physical contests and distributes prizes to winners and participants. More than 9,000 gifts and 1,032 prizes were distributed in the program.
