Kingdom to Meet Yemen on Oct. 11
JEDDAH, 1 October 2006 — Prince Nawaf ibn Fahd, deputy president of the Saudi Youth Welfare and Saudi Football Federation, announced yesterday the team that will play Yemen on Wednesday (Oct. 11) in the second round of the Asian Cup qualifying match at Jeddah’s Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium. Saudi Arabia are leading Group A with 12 points after winning their first-leg home and away matches.
In the first-leg, the Kingdom beat India 3-0, Japan 1-0 and Yemen 4-0. Saudi Arabia thrashed India 7-1 in the second round, and with this win the Kingdom formally qualified for the tournament next year. Saudi Arabia will be playing against Japan in their last qualifying match.
The team announced by Prince Nawaf includes Khalid Aziz, Abdulatif Al-Ghannam, Mohammed Al-Shalhoub and Ahmed Al-Suwailih (Hilal); Hamad Al-Sogour, Badr Al-Haqbani and Saad Al-Harthy (Al-Nasr); Mohammed Khouja, Hassan Moath and Abduh Ateif (Al-Shabab); Naif Al-Ghadi, Mohammed Mosad, Hussain Abdulghani and Tayseer Al-Jasim (Al-Ahli); Mabrouk Zaid, Hamad Al-Muntashiri and Mohammed Ameen (Al-Ittihad); Ahmed Al-Bahari and Salih Bashir (Al-Ittifaq); Usamah Hawasawi, Kamil Al-Moussa and Issa Al-Mihayani (Al-Wehda).
Saudi Arabian Horses in France
JEDDAH — A two-day Arabian Horses Contest began on yesterday at St. Tropez in southern France with 140 horses from 19 countries participating in the contest. Saudi Arabia is being represented by the Al-Khalidiah Stable, which belongs to Saudi Arabia’s Assistant Defense and Aviation Minister for Military Affairs Prince Khalid ibn Sultan. The Al-Khalidiah Stable has contributed with five of its best horses participating in the contest.
These horses have just arrived from Jordan after achieving additional awards at the Middle East International Championships 2006. Meanwhile, another Al-Khalidiah Stable horse called Robin succeeded in claiming the title at the United Nations Cup for Arabian Horses (mares) 2006 in Aachen, Germany.
