JEDDAH, 1 October 2006 — Mobily Karting Race’s third and fourth rounds will be held at the Jeddah Race Way for two days from Oct. 11. The first two rounds were held recently. The competition consists of six rounds being organized this year.
There will be qualifying rounds before the event to determine places for every driver. The race is being held according to CIK-FIA rules. Tony Kart, claimed to be one of the best cars that won the world title in 2004-05, is being used in the race. The cars are Italian made Fortex with 125 cc capacity, one cylinder, and 29-horse power engine.
The racetrack will be 1.10 km long prepared for 17 rounds that feature the event.
All safety equipment and measures are available at the site of the track where a large turnout of motor sport fans accompanied by families and children is expected.
Participants will collect points like in F1 — eight points for first position and one point for eighth position.
In the earlier rounds, Citroen team of Mohammad Kriediah took first place, followed by Majed Al-Ghamdi, a rally champion and Mobile1 karting driver who is competing in the karting event for the first time. Maher Mouminah of Rugh Riders team emerged in third place. These rounds featured eight teams, each consisting of two drivers except Castrol team that has one driver. Participating teams also included Mobile 1, Ten Zero, Rugh riders, Silver Shadow, Samorai and Al Bir.
“The stage is set for the remaining part of the first official championship across Saudi Arabia,” Abdullah Bakhashab, Saudi Rally Champion and organizer of the event told reporters yesterday.
“The race will be the first step for our youth to consider a future rally career,” he said, adding that it is the ambition of any potential rally careerist to look forward to taking part in F1 rallies. Michael Schumacher, the F1 great, has been wielding a tremendous influence on them, he said. “That’s why we aim to run our competition on the pattern of F1 races,” Bakhashab added. Mobily is the main sponsor of the championship, with Bison, Castrol, In 10 So and Okaz newspaper being other supporters.
