RIYADH, 3 October 2006 — Falling well behind while their rivals make moves left and right, defending champions Unlimited VIIII refused to disappear from view as they clinched Team of the Week honors during the 13th session in the Seiko Tuesday Night Inter-Commercial Bowling League 8th Conference at the Riyadh Bowling Club here.
An 18.5-11.5 victory over Swedtel Bowlers on total pinfalls of 3,209-3,053 ended the defending champions’ long wait for Team of the Week triumph and at the same time put some zing on their largely shaky campaign.
RJ Express issued an open challenge to league-leaders and 6th conference titlists Top Gun IV by winning their match 16-11(3,091-2,998) even as Lane Marauders scored a decisive 15-4 triumph over Tribong Ligaw on total pinfalls of 3,075-2,835.
JS Express brought down PICE-Habarz 14-12 (3,062-3,048) and ESA Realty beat CSCA 12.5-8.5 (2,897-2,838) in the other matches in the four-man team league event sponsored by Al-Hussaini and Al-Yahya Trading Company, the sole distributor of Seiko watches in the Kingdom, through Sales Manager Central Region Faisal Al-Dulli. The donors are Khalid Tawfiq Attiyah, operations manager of Subway Restaurant, and RJ Express Cargo Operations Manager Ramon Cruz.
To Joel Lambo of JS Express went the Bowler of the Week award after he shot the high series of 860 on rounds of 233, 170, 224, 193 and 40 handicap.
Unlimited of Mike Mangubat stuck by a four-man combination to get the job done against Swedtel with Ding Balagtas shooting the top score of 834. Sammy San Juan contributed 820, Leo Bandiola had 789 and Sonny Bautista made 766.
In a showdown between the league top two RJ Express got the better of Top Gun, dropping just one of four games and sweeping bonus points for scores of 700 and 750 with games of 775, 757, 782 and 777.
Ed Maduro was at the helm of RJ with 806 followed by Ben Valdez with 796 and Rod Tagaban with 786. Luis Semillano had 357 and Arnold Marchan 346.
Lane Marauders bowled pretty solid behind a four-man rotation of Eric Perez 797, Armin Isles 772, Fidel Ferrer 768 and Jojo Gabriel 738.
