QATIF, 2 November 2006 — The Filipino wife of a Saudi man in the Eastern Province has disappeared together with the couple’s three children, a boy and two girls.
According to an Arabic daily, the husband has contacted the local police and filed a missing report. The husband fears that his wife, known as Rosanelmar Canton, may have left the Kingdom together with the children.
The Saudi husband, Ali Al-Sehati, said that the woman took advantage of the fact that he was at work during the last 10 days of Ramadan to escape. Al-Sehati said his wife tricked him by saying she was going on a trip to the Corniche with the children. He said he was surprised when he returned home from work to find that she had left taking all her clothes.
Police have circulated a report in Qatif, Dammam and Alkhobar. The report was delayed from being widely circulated in the Kingdom because of the Eid holiday. Al-Sehati has contacted the Passport Department, the Philippine Embassy and local airports to block the woman’s escape. Officials at the embassy told Sehati that they have not received any information about the woman so far.
Robert Cudal of the Philippine Embassy’s labor office in Alkhobar said the only information they have came from an e-mail from a Filipino community member asking for assistance in locating the woman.
Labor Attache Delmer Cruz, head of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in the Eastern Province, appealed to other Filipinos in the region to call his office if they have any information that could lead to the resolution of the case.
