MAKKAH, 6 October 2006 — The Makkah municipality has increased the number of workers to clean the central area in Makkah.

The cleaning crew will take care of the areas around the Grand Mosque and streets leading to it.

More than 250 cleaning workers were deployed to the central area to support the existing crew. Over 61 new trash bins were sent to the central area in addition to cleaning vehicles that sweep the streets.

The Makkah municipality also deployed more workers to clean visitors’ car-parking spaces in Kudai, Taneem, Al-Muaisem and Al-Resaifa parking areas. The total weight of garbage collected in the first 12 days of Ramadan was 22,000 tons.

The Makkah municipality has also prepared a plan to fight vermin during Ramadan.

The Makkah municipality will focus on the central area with high density of people and meat and fruit markets.
