DAMMAM, 31 October 2006 — A 28-year-old woman filed a complaint against two Saudi men who tried to kidnap her and her daughter, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday.

The two Saudis stopped their car next to the woman and tried to force her and her daughter inside. The woman managed to run away and spotted a patrol team with whom she filed a complaint. One of the Saudis was arrested while the other man managed to escape. Police are still searching for the other man who is also wanted in relation to various other offenses.

Meanwhile, police in Taif located an Arab woman that was reported missing few days ago in a Taif zoo, according to Al-Riyadh newspaper. The woman was located at a relative’s home in Taif. The woman’s husband initially reported her missing after she left him to go to the public lavatory.

The couple had arrived from the Eastern Province to spend the Eid holiday in Taif.

Notorious Car Thief Nabbed in Taif

TAIF, 31 October 2006 — Police arrested a professional Saudi thief who targeted vehicles belonging to students at the city’s university while the students would be inside attending lessons. The thief was notorious for coming in the morning, smashing car windows and then stealing the contents. Many students complained about these thefts, which led police to maintain a major operation against him. Police officers also recovered stolen goods from the thief, who was taken to a local police station while investigations continue. Meanwhile, police in Abha arrested two men, who stole a military pickup truck in Okaz souk, Al-Watan reported yesterday. The two men came across the military truck whose engine was running while the army driver was inside the souk. Local police and military police cordoned off the area and cornered the suspects. The two men were found drunk and were reported to have previous criminal records.

Man Wanted Over Shooting Incident Caught

DAMMAM, 31 October 2006 — Police in the city arrested a suspect wanted in connection to the shooting of a man at the Corniche in Dammam, reported Al-Watan. Police said the shooting took place following a small fight that broke out between children and then resulted in adults becoming involved. The fight escalated until a gunman shot another man seriously injuring him. The man was taken to a local hospital. Police took a description of the gunman and searched potential places where he could be. He was arrested on Sunday.

Three Killed in Qunfudah Pileup

QUNFUDAH, 31 October 2006 — In a three-car pileup on the southern highway in Qunfudah, three people died and another three were left seriously injured, reported Al-Riyadh newspaper. Fire department, the police and the Red Crescent arrived at the location to free survivors from the wreckage.

Pickpocket Held After Theft Inside Mosque

RIYADH, 31 October 2006 — A pickpocket was arrested in Riyadh for robbing worshippers at a local mosque in the Al-Suwaidi neighborhood. An old Saudi informed police about a pickpocket who stole his wallet after Isha prayers. The secret police began looking for the thief and managed to arrest him a few days later. Police say that the man was prolific pickpocket.
